What Should I Be Doing?

What are the ongoing obligations of Christians living in the midst of those being led away to slaughter?

Many Christians want to know, “What should I do?”  Unfortunately, too many of them just want to know what they can do…once, or once per year to check that obligation off the list.  I prayed for an end to abortion during 40 Days for Life.  I wrote my check to the Pregnancy Resource Center.  Then they are done until next year.  A better question is, “What should I be doing?”  What are the ongoing duties and obligations of Christians who are living in the midst of those being led away to slaughter (Prov. 24:11)?

We recently received this inquiry:  “What do you feel is most needed? People getting involved politically?  If so, what is the most effective position to place myself in?  Or would it be best to just try to get the word out to reach more people?  Or do people like you need more financial support?  I know that to a degree I can and will do all three, but which of them is the greatest need at this point?”

This is a question likely shared by many of our concerned friends, so for the benefit of all, here is our opinion.  We see two influences on culture and public policy, one political and the other personal.  What should we be doing to influence our political leaders to abolish abortion, and until they do, what should we be doing personally to fight abortion?  The following recommendations do not address everything one could do, but they represent some of the top priorities:

Politically, everyone who wants to see the abolition of abortion should:

  1. Routinely write a physical letter to the governor demanding abolition and mail it. Many church congregations have a card ministry that meets on a monthly basis. It would be simple to add cards to the governor each month, reminding him that up to twenty babies are murdered by abortion every day that he does not act to stop the bloodshed. In Oklahoma, mail to Gov. Kevin Stitt at Oklahoma State Capitol, 2300 N Lincoln Blvd, Oklahoma City, OK 73105.
  2. Personally visit the governor’s office to demand abolition.
  3. Support the Abolition of Abortion in Oklahoma Act by educating your friends about it and asking your state representative and senator to co-author the bill. If they do not co-author the bill, you could run against them in the next election.
  4. Recruit others to take these same actions.

Outside of demanding that our governor stop the bloodshed and that our legislature establish equal justice in our statutes, everyone who wants to see the abolition of abortion should:

OUL interactive training builds confidence in Christian advocates for life.
  1. Interpose at death camps if you live close enough. Until executives step up to do their duty, someone must be there rescuing as many babies as possible.
  2. Engage in personal evangelism as often as possible. You are in constant contact with your family, friends, classmates, co-hobbyists, etc. Discuss abortion with them in the context of God’s expectations and Christianity.
  3. Bring an Oklahomans United for Life presentation, workshop, or outreach event to your church congregation and community.
  4. Recruit others to attend presentations and events.
  5. Help fund our training and outreach programs by donating.
